ABOUT OCO's CPR & First Aid Certification Classes
Most classes are open to the public.  Priority given to OCO employees who require this training for their jobs (exception - Community CPR courses, which are filled on a first come, first served basis).

OCO employees are strongly urged to purchase a textbook at least one week before class.  ($12 - $15, depending on course) Textbook purchase is not required to take the course.  Books are available in the classroom 1/2 hour before class begins.  Students are welcome to arrive early and read through the text material before class begins.  Books may be purchased, if desired, at the end of the class.  OCO employees may sign out and borrow textbooks at any time for the purposes of preparing for an upcoming class or as a refresher between renewal dates.

$ 40   HeartSaver AED (Adult/Child CPR*) & First Aid
           *Infant CPR can be added upon request for no additional charge

$ 40   BLS for Healthcare Providers first time certifications (Classroom-based: Adult, Child, & Infant CPR)

$20    BLS for Healthcare Providers Renewal course (classroom-based)
          
Classes are scheduled on March 9, April 13, October 12, and December 14, 2010.  All classes start at 8:30 AM and run until no later than 12:30.
          We will come to you, if you have 5 or more students.  Site visitation required, prior to scheduling.  Call 598-4705, Ext. 1023 for information.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

FAMILY DEVELOPMENT CREDENTIALING

Empowerment Skills for Family Workers: Class meets from 9AM - 3PM every other Thursday.  Students learn the principles of asset-based human service work and practice the family development approach to working with families and individuals.  In addition to class time, students will compile a portfolio of skills practices and other activities to extend learning.  Click here for brochure.  The next course begins September 23, 2010. Now accepting registration for 2010-2011.

Empowerment Skills for Leaders: Class meets on the fourth Friday of each month, from 9AM - 3PM (see schedule below, for next class). Students will learn and practice core concepts and competencies of empowerment-based leadership; enhance strengths-based communication skills; practice strengths-based assessment; and develop a plan for transitioning into an empowered workplace.  Click here for a Leadership Course brochure

Other Non-OCO Training Opportunities

American Management Association (AMA) Classes at SUNY Oswego
AMA professional and certificate programs are designed to build or enhance professional knowledge, skills, and leadership.  They are recognized benchmarks of professional achievement.  Through a flexible, learner-centered curriculum, the program integrates core knowledge with practical applications.  Class selections include Coaching for High Performance, Performance Appraisals, Leadership Skills for Managers, Fundamentals of Human Resources, Managing & Achieving Organizational Goals, Communication Skills for Leaders, How to Manage Your Priorities, and Project Management.

 

BLS Healthcare Provider Online Renewal Course
For healthcare providers who are unable to attend a classroom based renewal course.  This course is also appropriate for students certifying for the first time.  There is a fee for the online course: currently $17.50.
After completing the online course, you will need to schedule a skills test with a certified AHA Instructor.  Additional fees ($15) apply for the skills testing portion.

HelpPeople Supervisory Training
These courses are for OCO, Inc. employees.
