Health education
activities are an integral component of the Health Education’s programs and
services. Research and development of
educational programs, material development, grant writing, preparation of media
releases and coordination of in-service training on health issues are included
in the wide range of duties performed by health educators.
Health educators perform key roles as consultants,
referral agents, and as direct service providers to individual programs. Health education strategies emphasize
prevention as a primary focus. Eliciting
community involvement and maintaining community networks are also major
functions of this unit. School health
programs, volunteer health agencies, hospitals, universities, business, and
industry have all utilized health educators' expertise and resources in program
development, implementation, and evaluation.
Health Educators are available to speak in the
community on various topics such as:
adolescent health, breast, cervical and colorectal cancer, HIV/AIDS, tobacco
education, and sexually transmitted disease.
