Mental Health
Today, more and more of the consumers we serve are faced with multiple diagnoses and conditions requiring treatment or assistance. In addition to a mental illness, many of the consumers have other disabilities such as a chemical dependence, learning disability, traumatic brain injury, and more involved medical issues. This makes providing services more challenging, but OCO staff are rising to meet those challenges by providing a variety of activities, opportunities, and trips to assist this population.
A raised garden bed was planted at the East Broadway residence, to allow residents to grow their own zucchini and tomatoes. Staff and consumers traveled to Albany to inform our legislators of current issues impacting local mental health programs. Consumers also volunteered at Michaud Nursing Home in Fulton, making bird houses, painting, and spending time with the residents there.
