Rest Assured ...
Homeless children and families come to OCO with little more than the clothes on their backs, often from desperate living situations with nowhere else to turn.
As we help them get back on their feet, a safe, affordable place to live is crucial. But these little ones need more than a roof over their head; they need a clean bed.
Unfortunately, thrift stores and second-hand shops rarely have mattresses or bedding in stock, due to the recent and rapid spread of nuisance insects like bed bugs and fleas.
Healthy sleep supports a healthy body, an alert mind ready to learn at school and reduces risks for obesity.
Be part of the solution: help provide safe, hygienic bedding for kids in need.
Proceeds from “Giving Thanks” will be used in support of OCO’s “Sleep Tight” initiative to purchase safe, hygienic bedding for children in need. “Every child deserves a good night’s sleep; however for many children in Oswego County the bed bugs are biting.
“Our goal with the ‘Sleep Tight’ initiative is threefold: to provide funds for staff and client education, to purchase equipment for sanitizing and extermination, and buy and maintain bedding supplies that are protected from infestation,” said OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier. “We need to be proactive in stopping the spread of insect pests like bed bugs, which are no longer merely a ‘big city’ problem and are now spreading across Central New York.”
