'Beat the Celebrity Bowler' contest at this year's Bowl-A-Fun
Bowlers have a chance to win some prize money at this year’s “Lucky 13” Bowl-A-Fun. The annual fund raiser held by Oswego County Opportunities takes place on Saturday, April 13, from noon – 6 pm at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton.
“We’re featuring a ‘Beat the Celebrity Bowler’ contest this year,” said OCO Bowl-A-Fun committee member Betsy Copps. “OCO’s Executive Director, Diane Cooper-Currier, will bowl a game and the committee will seal her score in an envelope. Any Bowl-A-Fun participant who wants to try their hand at beating Diane’s score can pay a $5 entry fee.”
All scores that beat the celebrity will be entered in a drawing for half of the proceeds raised by the contest. “We’ll split the pot 50-50 between the winner and OCO,” Copps explained.
This year’s event was dubbed the “Lucky 13” Bowl-A-Fun because it is taking place on 4-13-13. “Thirteen is usually associated with superstition and bad luck, but we’re turning that around and making it a lucky day, with many chances to win raffles, door prizes, silent auction items, and more!” Copps stated.
Many activities will be provided during the afternoon, including live acoustic music, activities for children, a silent auction, door prize drawings, a 50-50 drawing, and a Lucky 13 Raffle for three major prizes.
Also, everyone is encouraged to bring at least one non-perishable food item and/or a personal care item for OCO to distribute to the homeless. “Emily Bradshaw, Oswego resident and advocate for the county’s homeless, has agreed to serve as honorary chairperson of our event this year,” Copps said. “We wanted to offer as many ways as possible for the community to participate and help the homeless. Whether someone makes a pledge, donates money as a sponsor, buys raffle tickets, or brings in canned goods, they’re making a difference for those in need.”
The “Lucky 13” Bowl-A-Fun takes place from noon – 6:00 pm at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton. Registration fee is $75 per five-person team, with choice of flights: Noon - 2:30 pm or 3:00 - 5:30 pm (first come, first served). Businesses and individuals are invited to donate door prizes for the raffles and silent auction, and major sponsors are being solicited as well.
“If you can’t participate in our activities on April 13, you can still help,” Copps said. “We are accepting pledges from the community towards the event, and we are also selling raffle tickets at $5 each or 3 for $13. We have three great prizes: Over $400 worth of camping gear, a getaway for two to Vernon Downs Casino, and a dinner cruise for two on Skaneateles Lake or the Erie Canal. Call 598-4717 to get tickets.”
